Every year we hold a Prayer Day, where we invite parents and friends of the school to join us in giving thanks for the year and the progress made from year to year. As a faith-based school, we see it as important to have this time to give thanks to the One that carries the school throughout each year and bestows favour and grace to everyone. Our prayer day is held every September, since 2009 and our stakeholders enjoy the festive and celebratory day. As the years have passed, the number of attendees has increased and we appreciate this show of support from our community – we do thank them for their encouragement throughout these years.

Our first ever Founder’s Day was held in last year, 2019, as we celebrated 20 years of existence. The day was the first of its kind for our school as we marked this milestone with our school family, most notably, families that have been with us from year one.

The celebrations included speeches from old friends of the school, the directors and our principal, our head boy and head girl and special messages from our alumni. The feast merriments started weeks before as stakeholders generously donated to our mal in all forms and this made the feast even more special. Our sincerest gratitude goes towards our supportive stakeholders for celebrating this day with us.

Step Ahead’s staff and learners come from various rich backgrounds and cultures and we thrive in the diversity. As an institution that enjoys a close relationship with all its stakeholders, we take advantage of the opportunity to recognise and celebrate the African cultures represented by our stakeholders every year in our Africa Day Celebrations. Learners and staff dressed up in traditional attire share and entertain the school with poetry, speech’s and short skits as a way of taking pride in our beautiful and diverse continent.

As a community that has experienced xenophobic tensions in the recent history, we see it important to broaden our learner’s view of the continent and to take pride in the many rich cultures and in what each language, traditional food and customs of this land.

The success in the celebrations are seen in how the learners interact with different languages and people from other countries, no longer negative but with interest and tolerance. This is one of the several ways we try grow global citizens.

Our annual graduation ceremony for the grade R learners is one of the highlights of the year that parents have come to expect and enjoy since the first ceremony held at the Tsomo town hall in 2000. Since the first ceremony, we look forward to ushering the grade R class into their first phase of the schooling career, a fundamental foundational phase that will equip them for many years to come.

The day has traditionally been held at the town hall that is always packed to capacity with joyous family members and learners waiting to see the young graduates take the stage.

The day is a special time to showcase the learners and their teachers’ hard work of the year in the form of spoken word, cultural dances, and speeches, and a particularly sweet skits and songs from our foundation phase learners.

We mark graduation every October as our last school event and as the final goodbye to our school family for the year.
